In what sounds like a comedy sketch from Jon Stewart’s Daily Show, but
isn’t, the U. S. Senate would impose criminal penalties, even jail time, on

A group of Senate Democrats and one Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter, want to resurrect the bill to fix a provision they say threatens the nation’s credibility on human rights issues.

The networks are fighting back in court, and it looks like the FCC isn’t looking very good so far….

The idea of citizens using the Internet to monitor their representatives and the legislation that they draft is nothing novel. But a new project aimed at allowing citizen legislatures to collaboratively script their own legislation, challenging what representative democracy means, certainly is.

Earlier today I was reading this article over at Reuters and the thought of Americans not only buying into the idea of “labeling” Muslims in America but even going so far as to round them up into prison camps made me sick. How can anyone in this country be so scared after 9/11 to actually think that these things would be a good idea? This just goes to show exactly how well the government has hyped the “War on Terror” to America. They have people thinking that Muslims worldwide want them dead when in fact it’s actually just a small number of extremists that want to hurt Americans. I know the better part of this fear is based on misinformation and ignorance since most people know nothing of Islam or it’s teachings… all they know is the some Muslims killed Americans and now they have to pay. If they took a moment to learn a thing or two about “the enemy” then they’d realize that most the Muslim community are peaceful people who want nothing to do with extremist groups such as al-Qaeda. Instead people rely on the media and general stereotypes for their information. As the article above states, this is exactly how Hitler turned the German people against the Jews before WWII. He spread lies and rumors based on stereotypes and misinformation concerning the Jewish faith and then used that to make them a scapegoat for all the problems in Germany. We can’t let that happen here in the U.S. people! Muslims are not to blame for 9/11… terrorists are. Unfortunately these terrorists just happen to be Muslim. What if the terrorists had all been Jewish? Would you then blame all Jews for the attacks? Think about it. Think hard about it.

Looks like the Presidential Race for 2008 is shaping up to be a real dog fight if you ask me. Several interesting candidates, some really good candidates, and some just wacky… but overall I feel it’s good for the country to have a wide range of people to consider. I can’t wait for the race to get into full swing next year!
